Hi everyone!

I’m excited to reconnect with you all after taking some much-needed time off for full-time parental leave since July. Starting this September, I’ll be transitioning to part-time work while continuing to care for my two small kids. However, I will probably work two full-time jobs, as having kids is no time off.

In this month’s recap, we’ll explore the latest in endpoint management, Microsoft product updates, and some fantastic resources like the Skilling Snacks series, which I’ve really enjoyed following. These quick, focused learning sessions have been a great way to stay updated when given a busy schedule.

Microsoft has introduced checkpoint cumulative updates for Windows 11, starting with version 24H2. These updates are not only smaller and faster but also more efficient. They enhance security and performance by delivering incremental changes since the last checkpoint, reducing download sizes, and optimizing update processes.  

The updates require no additional action for devices managed via Windows Update, Windows Update for Business, or WSUS, ensuring an efficient update management process for IT professionals.

Happy summer from Sweden. I hope you’re well and enjoying the season. I will soon go on a long holiday with a combined vacation and parental leave (8 weeks). But don’t worry, the REMR will maintain its monthly schedule for July and August.

Hello!

May is finally here, and it’s my favorite month of the year! The weather is usually fantastic, and we have the whole summer to look forward to. This month, we have some exciting highlights to share with you.

This REMR features updates from Microsoft Build and big news about the next generation of Windows Autopilot, which will bring a re-engineered architecture and enhanced deployment features.

This month brings exciting news with new macOS management features, including Platform SSO. Microsoft has enhanced the integration of macOS devices with Intune, making it easier to manage and secure Apple devices within an enterprise environment.

The most significant update this month is the next generation of Windows Autopilot. This update introduces a re-engineered architecture that supports more devices, streamlines the deployment process, and enhances reporting capabilities. Admins can now define apps to be installed during the out-of-box experience (OOBE), making deployment more efficient and secure. You can read more about these updates in the Microsoft Intune Blog.

Additionally, Microsoft Build 2024 showcased a strong focus on AI. Microsoft introduced new AI-integrated services aimed at both enterprises and consumers, including updates to Team Copilot and Copilot+ PCs and the introduction of the Phi-3-Vision small language model.

These updates ensure developers have the tools to create a wide range of AI-enabled products.

Highlights from Microsoft Build include:

This month, Microsoft has announced the release of Configuration Manager version 2403, which brings several significant enhancements directly from their development team. These updates aim to enhance your management capabilities and security protocols:

• Microsoft Entra ID: Microsoft Azure Active Directory has been rebranded to Microsoft Entra ID in Configuration Manager, reflecting Microsoft’s ongoing efforts to streamline identity services.
• New Features in Console: Experience improved efficiency with features such as an automated diagnostic dashboard for software update issues, a centralized search box for more straightforward navigation, and better-organized script folders.
• Communication Security Enhancements: Microsoft has increased security measures by mandating HTTPS or Enhanced HTTP for all client communications, phasing out support for HTTP-only.
• OS Deployment for ARM 64 Devices: There is enhanced support for deploying Windows 11 on ARM 64 devices and significant improvements to task sequences.
• Deprecated and Blocked Features: Microsoft is ending support for Windows Server 2012/2012 R2 site roles and blocking upgrades if the classic CMG V1 runs. System Center Update Publisher (SCUP) support will end in January 2024.

• Technical preview 2401 – Configuration Manager | Microsoft Learn

The Configuration Manager Technical Preview version 2401 introduces several new features and updates to enhance efficiency, security, and user experience. These updates include:

• An Automated Diagnostic Dashboard for Software Update Issues, providing a centralized view for diagnosing and addressing software update problems directly within the console.
• A Centralized Search box in the console streamlines the search experience for admins by allowing them to find necessary information without navigating through multiple sections.
• The rebranding of Microsoft Azure Active Directory to Microsoft Entra ID is reflected in the Configuration Manager from version 2403 onwards.
• Enhancements in Deploying Software Packages with Dynamic Variables include a retry count in the UI for administrators, reducing unnecessary notifications of task sequence failures when package versions on the distribution point are updated.
• Enabling Auto-Image Patching for CMG Virtual Machine Scale Set, automating updates to ensure environments remain current and secure.
• A Windows 11 Readiness dashboard to support Windows 11 23H2, aiding in the preparation for the latest Windows version.
• A requirement for HTTPS or Enhanced HTTP for client communication, deprecating HTTP-only communication to bolster security.
• Blocking the upgrade to CM 2403 if CMG V1 is running as a cloud service (classic), urging users to adopt virtual machine scale sets for CMG deployments.
• Ending support for Windows Server 2012/2012 R2 operating system site system roles starting with version 2403, encouraging users to update their server operating systems for continued support.
• Bitlocker improvements include verifying key escrow to the database to prevent potential data loss scenarios.

Hello everyone!

It’s November. The dark and cold are upon us, and soon it will be Christmas. I like this time of the year!

This month has brought many developments, particularly with AI’s integration into all of Microsoft’s products. Microsoft’s flagship product for this is Copilot, which was heavily featured during Microsoft Ignite.

In this edition, I’ve compiled essential resources and links from Microsoft Ignite. Expect to discover how Copilot is transforming our experience with Microsoft products.

As usual, the recap covers all other new content from Microsoft and the community.

The next recap will also be the last of the year, giving us some good indications of what we have in store for 2024.

Microsoft Product Announcement

This month, we saw the much-anticipated release of Windows 11 23H2, bringing a host of exciting updates and features: 

• Copilot in Windows Preview: Copilot in Windows is rolling out in preview, starting in select global markets, such as North America, Asia, and South America, with plans to expand to more markets over time. 
• SMS Integration: Windows 11 now allows you to send and receive SMS messages within Microsoft Teams and link your Android Phone using Link to Windows, enabling SMS access and meeting link sharing via your phone number. 
• New People Experience: A new People experience makes finding people relevant to you easy on Teams. Because Teams syncs with your Outlook and Skype contacts, you can connect to them whenever you want. 
• Application Management: There are changes in managing applications, where system components are labeled “system” under All apps on the Start menu, and their management page has been moved to Settings > System > System Components.
